Cellpic Sunday—Morning Showers on Kaua‘i

Showers give way to sunshine

April, 2025
Kālaheo, Kaua‘i, Hawai‘i.

It’s been eighteen years since our first visit to Hawai‘i and the beautiful island of Kaua‘i. On our first trip, we cruised the islands, stopping for only a few hours at each island. It was then that I fell in love with Waimea Canyon on Kaua‘i. We visited the island again in 2013 and stayed with friends for 10 days.

Several posts from 2014 tell the stories of our first stay on Kaua‘i. I even flew in an ultralight aircraft over the canyon. You can find them using the search tool on the right of any blog post. Use the keyword ‘Kauai’.

In April 2025, we found ourselves en route to Kaua‘i and a furnished house in Kālaheo that we had rented for two months. As I write this for publication in July, we’ve been here for less than a week, but as I get the adventure photos processed, I’ll be sharing adventures from Kaua‘i.

About the photo: We woke up to a rain shower. Stepping out on the deck with my Samsung S23 Ultra, I captured the last of the shower as the sun began to burn through the layer of clouds. The clouds gradually took over, bringing intermittent rain throughout the day.

I processed this photo quickly, making a minor adjustment in Lightroom Classic to correct the blown-out highlights around the brightest parts of the sky. I then sent the image off to Luminar Neo for sharpness and Accent AI. You can click on the image to view it in 2K HD on a dark background and see the photo’s metadata, if you’re inclined.

I invite fellow bloggers to join in by creating their own Cellpic Sunday posts. There’s no set theme. The first rule is that your photo must be captured with a cell phone, iPad, or other mobile device. The second rule is simple: link your challenge response to this post or drop a comment here with your link so others can find it. And remember, despite the name, there’s no penalty for sharing on a day other than Sunday.

    • I really enjoy reading the posts linked to Cellpic Sunday. It’s almost always spur-of-the-moment images that are captured with the only camera available at the time.
