Cellpic Sunday—Sunset Sailaway at Lisbon

Sunset sailaway

February 2025.
Lisbon, Portugal.

Lynn and I are leaving this week for a cruise, and this post is hopefully a premonition of the sunsets that will visit us as we sail.

It was dinnertime when we set sail from the port city of Lisbon. We sat down at the table, which happened to be next to a window. I was in a perfect position to capture the sunset. Spanning the Tagus River with its striking red steel and sweeping cables, the 25 de Abril Bridge is one of Lisbon’s iconic landmarks. Opened in 1966, it was modeled in many respects after the Golden Gate Bridge, though its engineering more closely resembles that of the Bay Bridge in the San Francisco area.

I captured this view on my Samsung S23U because I liked the window, though the seawater spray on the outside of the glass was the only impediment to a truly crisp shot. OK, maybe it’s not “perfect,” but I love the colors. I recently rediscovered this photo from our February 2025 cruise and processed it in Adobe Lightroom Classic, cropping and cataloging it. Then I sent it to Luminar Neo for noise reduction, Smart Contrast, and Accent AI adjustments. You can click the image to view it in 2K HD and explore the metadata on my Flickr site.

I invite fellow bloggers to join in by creating their own Cellpic Sunday posts. There’s no set theme—the only rule is that your photo must be captured with a cell phone, iPad, or other mobile device. The second rule is simple: link your challenge response to this post or drop a comment here with your link so others can find it. And remember, despite the name, there’s no penalty for sharing on a day other than Sunday.

One final administrative note: Our cruise will severely limit my Internet access. If I don’t respond to comments as quickly as usual, rest assured I’ve read every one and will reply when I can.

  1. I love the colors too, John. That sunset was a beautiful sendoff to your voyage, in grand style. Wonderful photo, and I thought the sea spray on the window was perfect to set the scene. As always, I enjoy learning from and reading your processing techniques. Safe travels!
