Each summer, Pyrotechnics Guild International (PGI) hosts a week-long convention of their membership. Of interest to the general public, they offer nightly competitions for judging, vendor’s demonstrations and other displays. The conference is held in a different city each year and over the years, it’s been held in West Fargo at the Red River Valley Fairgrounds on eight separate occasions. The 2017 convention was held in West Fargo. If you enjoy quality fireworks programs, the PGI public displays are not to be missed. This year, there were three evening programs open to the public. Their public displays are popular events, this year with a sell-out crowd on the final presentation night. I try not to miss at least one of their presentations, especially the finale performance. There were four presentations on Friday evening including three performances set to music. The program started just after 9:30 PM and concluded just after 11:00 PM, during which, except for short breaks between presenters, the sky was filled with pyrotechnics. In a future Travel Tuesday, I’ll have more on the PGI and additional images captured during the performance. Next year, PGI holds their convention in Mason City, Iowa.

Awesome! We’ve lived in a lot spots & you just don’t find this in many of them. Just met a bartender in San Diego, who does this for a living… According to him, it looks like more fun than it is. Isn’t that always the truth.
I suspect it is a tedious job, building and wiring, scripting the music, planning the firing order. It is probably a lot like programming those super fancy home holiday light displays… except the lights are reusable. 😀
The quality is amazing. i usually forget there is a camera on my iphone. I’m still not used to taking photos with it!
I am still surprised by the quality of today’s cell phone cameras, especially the rear camera on the phone. It is no wonder that cheap point and shoot cameras are a fading market.
